There are different reasons why a person can have a toothache. In order to receive the proper treatment, it is important that the toothache cause is diagnosed properly. A common reason for a toothache is a tooth that has damaged or infected pulp in the center. If you have a tooth with this type of problem, the tooth is usually painful when you eat something that is hot or cold, or when pressure is placed upon it. If this is the case, you may need to have a root canal treatment to save the tooth. A tooth can develop damaged pulp in different ways ranging from untreated dental decay to tooth trauma. The good news is that root canal treatments are effective in saving teeth in over 90% of cases. If our dentist finds that you need to have a root canal treatment, it can be provided at our office while you remain perfectly comfortable in our dentist’s chair. Another common cause for a Mansfield toothache is a wisdom tooth that has become infected or impacted. Since wisdom teeth are the last teeth in the mouth to erupt, they offer encounter problems when trying to come in. By the time wisdom teeth are ready to erupt, there is also little to no room left in the mouth for this to occur. When wisdom teeth cause any type of problems in the mouth, they are generally extracted since they are not needed for chewing or for clear speech. Other reasons for having a toothache can include having a cracked tooth, having a tooth with a cavity, or even having a tooth abscess.
